THURSDAY MEETINGS: Second Thursday of the month, 10:00 - 12:30; Ludwick Center, 864 Santa Rosa St., SLO. Refreshments are provided; bring something for "Show & Tell"; some items you no longer need for the raffle; and a few dollars to buy raffle tickets

Jan 12: The Land of Linen: How the Ancient Egyptians Made Linen from Flax ~ Christi Porter will present this informative program on flax cultivation and the production of linen in ancient Egypt. Learn about the flax plant, and how the Ancient Egyptians used it in many ways. Including how they grew and harvested flax, then processed it into a textile product of which there was no match.

Christi Porter is a textile artist and designer committed to the preservation and cultivation of textile arts. She is an active member of several artisan guilds, including quilting, weaving, and the Textile Arts Council of San Francisco.

Feb 9: Intentional Design with Bonnie Tarses ~ Bonnie Tarses, an artist who happens to weave, will demonstrate her process of infusing meaning into every individual thread to create unique and amazing cloth woven in joyous prayer.

Bonnie is in the process of documenting a half century of weaving and how it evolved into a kaleidoscope of colorful images that have taken on a life of their own. She a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and creates one-of-a-kind and limited edition textiles. (Bonnie is also presenting a workshop on Feb 11 – 12, see Workshops.)

Jan 28: An Elegant Luncheon at the Indigo Moon Café in Cambria ~ All Guild members are invited to attend as part of our year long celebration of the Guild’s Golden Anniversary. This cute restaurant offers a full lunch menu of sandwiches, salads, or soup. Prices range from $5.50 for soup to $13 for cod with chips and coleslaw. Wear your best handwoven or hand spun clothing, or get all dressed up in art-to-wear.

Feb 25: A Visit to Bricia Logan’s Studio ~ Brecia is a friendly, dynamic fiber artist who makes wearable art clothing in techniques ranging from strip-weaving to free form knitting. See her work at www.breciacreative.com/index.html

Brecia will give a program on silk based on her recent trip to Japan where she was able to observe Japanese sericulture and silk production techniques. She will show a short DVD, give us a lecture/trunk show, and demonstrate some of her techniques, weather permitting.
